Buying an air purifier in India is more confusing than it
should be. One machine claims to cover 300 sq. ft., another 600 sq. ft., and
another considerably more — yet those figures may be based on different testing
methods and numbers of air changes per hour.
That is why CADR matters more than the biggest coverage
number printed on the product page. The US EPA recommends selecting a
purifier with sufficient clean-air delivery for the actual room size and notes
that higher ceilings require more capacity. Its sizing guidance equates a 300
sq. ft. room with roughly 195 cfm of CADR, for example.
For this 2026 guide, we compared current models available to
Indian buyers using manufacturer-published CADR, filtration, noise, smart
features, power consumption and — importantly — replacement-filter support.
These are specification-based editorial recommendations; we are not claiming to
have physically tested the machines.
Quick recommendations
Our top pick: Philips
PureProtect 3200 AC3220/60
For most buyers who want one capable purifier for a
substantial bedroom or living area, the Philips AC3220/60 is our preferred
all-round choice.
Its biggest advantage is straightforward: 520 m³/h CADR.
Philips rates it for up to 62 m² under its GB/T room-size specification, and
the machine combines a pre-filter, NanoProtect HEPA filtration and activated
carbon. It also supports app control and monitors PM2.5, temperature and
humidity.
It is unusually quiet for its output. Philips specifies a
minimum sound level of 15 dB and maximum of 47.5 dB, while power consumption is
listed at 36 W. Replacement FY3200/30 filters are designed specifically for the
3200 Series, with Philips stating a lifespan of up to one year depending on air
quality and use.
Who should buy it: Buyers wanting substantial CADR
without stepping into the most expensive premium category.
Who should consider another option: For a small
bedroom, you can spend considerably less. For a very large living area,
consider the 600 m³/h Philips AC4221/61 instead.
Verdict: The best balance in this shortlist of
purification capacity, noise, filtration and everyday usability.

Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Lite — Best Value
The Xiaomi Smart
Air Purifier 4 Lite is the value choice for buyers who want meaningful
CADR plus app connectivity without moving into the ₹20,000-plus segment.
Xiaomi specifies
360 m³/h particle CADR, 360-degree air intake, triple-layer filtration
and an effective coverage specification of 269–463 sq. ft. The filter combines
primary filtration, high-efficiency particle filtration and activated carbon.
App control is available through Xiaomi Home.
It is also easier to recommend than a purifier whose
replacement consumables are difficult to identify. Xiaomi's Indian store
currently lists the compatible 4 Lite replacement filter separately, which is
an important consideration for long-term ownership.
The manufacturer's Indian store has recently positioned the
machine around the lower-mid-range end of this shortlist, although prices can
change frequently.
Who should buy it: Buyers looking for a smart
purifier for a typical bedroom, study or moderate-size room without
overspending.
Who should consider another option: Choose the
Philips AC3220 or AC4221 if you need substantially faster cleaning in a large
room.
Verdict: One of the most convincing combinations of
CADR, connectivity and purchase price in the current Indian market.

Coway Airmega 150 — Best Simple Option
Not everyone needs another appliance connected to an app.
The Coway Airmega 150 makes
a strong case for buyers who primarily want a dedicated air purifier that is
straightforward to operate.
Coway publishes a 303 m³/h CADR, a stated 355 sq. ft.
room size, 22–49 dB noise range and 38 W power consumption. Its filtration
system uses a washable pre-filter, urethane carbon stage and True HEPA
filtration, while the purifier includes an air-quality indicator, automatic
operation and filter-cleaning notifications.
Another selling point is the manufacturer's stated 8,500-hour
life for its HEPA and carbon filters. Actual replacement intervals will
naturally depend on pollution and use, but that published figure makes the
model particularly interesting for buyers concerned about consumable frequency.
Who should buy it: Buyers who value simple controls,
proven purifier fundamentals and long stated filter life more than Wi-Fi
features.
Who should consider another option: The Xiaomi 4 Lite
gives you higher published CADR plus app functionality for less money in some
current listings.
Verdict: A sensible purifier-first choice rather than
a smart-home gadget with purification added.

Philips PureProtect Mini AC0950/60 — Best for Bedrooms
For a small or medium bedroom, buying the highest-CADR
purifier available is not always necessary. Noise, dimensions and energy
consumption become especially important.
The Philips
AC0950/60 combines 250 m³/h CADR with a stated room size of 30
m². Its three-stage system incorporates a pre-filter, NanoProtect HEPA and
activated carbon, while a PM2.5 sensor provides real-time air-quality
information.
Its headline bedroom advantage is noise. Philips specifies
just 20.5 dB in Sleep mode, with maximum power consumption of only 23 W.
Wi-Fi, the Air+ app, scheduling and voice control are supported as well.
Replacement FY0910/30 filters are sold by Philips India,
which reduces one of the major ownership uncertainties with cheaper purifier
brands.
Who should buy it: Bedroom users who prioritise quiet
operation, compact dimensions and established replacement-filter support.
Who should consider another option: For a larger
lounge or open-plan area, 250 m³/h is not the capacity we would choose.
Verdict: A particularly well-balanced bedroom
purifier.

Mijia by Xiaomi Air Purifier 4 Compact — Best Budget Pick
The Mijia Smart
Air Purifier 4 Compact is one of the more interesting low-cost
additions to the Indian market.
It provides 230 m³/h particle CADR, three-layer
filtration, 360-degree intake, Xiaomi Home connectivity, Google Home/Alexa
support and a stated Sleep-mode noise level of 20 dB. Rated power is only 27 W.
Xiaomi advertises coverage of more than 400 sq. ft., but
there is an important qualification: that figure is explicitly based on two
air changes per hour. In a heavily polluted environment, we would size much
more conservatively rather than treating the 400 sq. ft. number as directly
comparable with every competing purifier.
That distinction is exactly why CADR should be compared
before headline coverage.
One ownership caveat remains: although Xiaomi produces a
compatible 4 Compact replacement filter internationally, we could not verify
the same straightforward India-store availability and local pricing that we
could for the 4 Lite filter. Check replacement-filter availability before
purchasing.
Who should buy it: Budget buyers with a smaller
bedroom, study or home office who want smart controls.
Who should consider another option: If you expect to
keep the purifier running heavily through several pollution seasons, the Xiaomi
4 Lite or Philips AC0950 currently gives us greater confidence around Indian
replacement-filter purchasing.
Verdict: Excellent hardware value, but check the
consumables before clicking Buy.

Philips PureProtect Pro 4200 AC4221/61 — Best for Large
Rooms
For buyers who genuinely have a large room, moving up in
CADR makes more sense than trusting an optimistic coverage claim from a smaller
machine.
The Philips
AC4221/61 delivers 600 m³/h CADR and Philips specifies a 72 m²
GB/T room rating. It combines HEPA, activated carbon and pre-filtration with
sensors for PM2.5, gases, temperature and humidity. Air+ app connectivity,
automatic operation and remote scheduling are included.
Philips lists operating sound from 15 dB in Sleep mode to
51.5 dB at maximum output, with maximum consumption of 54 W.
Who should buy it: Buyers with a large living room or
those wanting substantially more cleaning capacity than typical 250–360 m³/h
machines provide.
Who should consider another option: For a normal
bedroom, paying for 600 m³/h is unnecessary.
Verdict: The capacity-first choice in this guide.

A purifier we would check carefully before buying: Qubo
Q600
The Qubo Q600
looks highly competitive on specifications: Qubo lists 450 m³/h CADR,
True HEPA H13 filtration, app and voice controls and a 600 sq. ft. coverage
claim.
The concern is not the purifier itself but the consumable.
When checked, Qubo's own filter store showed the Q600 replacement filter as out
of stock. Qubo recommends replacement roughly annually, depending on use.
That does not make the purifier a bad product. It does mean
we would confirm that a genuine replacement filter is available before buying
the machine.
How much CADR do you actually need?
CADR — Clean Air Delivery Rate — measures how much filtered
air the purifier delivers. For particulate pollution, it is a more useful
comparison than a large marketing coverage number.
EPA guidance provides a useful benchmark for an eight-foot
ceiling: approximately 130 cfm CADR for 200 sq. ft., 195 cfm for 300 sq. ft.,
260 cfm for 400 sq. ft. and 325 cfm for 500 sq. ft. Rooms with taller ceilings
should be sized more generously.
That means a purifier claiming “600 sq. ft. coverage” does
not automatically clean a 600 sq. ft. room as aggressively as another
manufacturer's 600 sq. ft. purifier. Always investigate the CADR and, where
disclosed, the number of air changes behind the claim.
What should you look for when buying an air purifier in
India?
CADR comes first. Match clean-air output to your
actual room rather than buying on claimed square footage alone.
Look for effective particle filtration. HEPA or
another independently specified high-efficiency particle filter is important
for PM2.5, dust and allergens. EPA guidance likewise recommends choosing
sufficient CADR and effective particle filtration.
Activated carbon has a different job. Particle
filters and gas filtration are not the same thing. Carbon is relevant to odours
and certain gaseous pollutants, although performance depends heavily on how
much adsorbent material the filter actually contains.
Check replacement filters before buying the purifier.
A great machine becomes far less useful if its genuine filter disappears from
the market. Check current filter price and availability before committing to an
ecosystem.
Noise matters because purifiers need runtime. A
purifier that is annoyingly loud may end up being switched off. For a bedroom,
pay particular attention to Sleep-mode noise rather than only maximum CADR.
Do not assume an air purifier solves every indoor-air
problem. Filtration supplements — rather than replaces — controlling
pollution sources and using appropriate ventilation when outdoor conditions
permit. No portable purifier removes every pollutant.
So, which air purifier should you actually buy?
For a typical buyer who wants a capable purifier and has the
budget, the Philips AC3220/60 is
our first choice because its 520 m³/h CADR gives it substantially more
headroom than typical compact units while maintaining low noise and good smart
features.
For better value, the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Lite
is the more attractive choice. It gives you 360 m³/h CADR, app control and
readily identifiable replacement filtration without moving into premium
pricing.
For a bedroom, choose the Philips AC0950/60. If your
priority is simplicity rather than smart functions, the Coway Airmega 150 is a compelling
alternative. For a large room, move up to the Philips AC4221/61 rather than
asking a small purifier to work beyond its comfortable capacity.
And if your budget is tight, the Mijia Air Purifier 4 Compact
offers unusually strong specifications for the money — but verify
replacement-filter availability before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Which is the best air purifier in India in 2026?
For the broadest mix of CADR, quiet operation, filtration
and smart features, our current all-round recommendation is the Philips
PureProtect 3200 AC3220/60. Smaller rooms and lower budgets do not
necessarily need that much capacity.
Which air purifier is best for Delhi pollution?
Prioritise sufficient CADR for the size of your closed room,
effective fine-particle filtration and dependable replacement-filter
availability. In larger rooms, higher-output options such as the Philips
AC3220/60 or AC4221/61 make more sense than relying on a small purifier's
maximum coverage claim.
Is a HEPA air purifier enough for PM2.5?
High-efficiency particle filtration is relevant to PM2.5,
but filter efficiency alone does not tell you how rapidly a purifier cleans a
room. CADR and correct room sizing matter too.
Is a 250 m³/h purifier enough for a bedroom?
It can be a sensible capacity for many modest bedrooms.
Exact suitability depends on the room's area, ceiling height, leakage and
desired cleaning rate. For larger rooms, size up.
Should I run an air purifier all night?
Air filtration increases with longer operating time. If
nighttime use is important, choose a model with a quiet Sleep mode and ensure
that the intake and outlet are not obstructed.
How often should an air-purifier filter be changed?
There is no universal interval. Manufacturers in this guide
quote anything from months to roughly a year or thousands of operating hours.
Actual life depends on pollution, fan speed and runtime. Follow the filter
indicator and manufacturer instructions rather than replacing solely by
calendar date.
Do air purifiers remove smells?
Activated carbon can reduce some gases and odours. A
particulate HEPA filter by itself is primarily intended for particles, not
gaseous contaminants.
